Hornady recently did a very thorough dive into cleaning and what they use in their test barrels, it was backed by a lot of scientific testing by doing barrel inspections to determine wear, carbon and copper buildup etc. and used that data to determine a daily cleaning regimen for their test barrels. I watched all four and found them worthwhile. I happen to use Boretech Eliminator or Shooters Choice 95% of the time, Hornady uses Boretech as well, if you don't want to watch the videos. Just a note, they run their test tunnel 24-7, shoot hundreds, if not thousands of rounds a day and according to the guy in the video who runs that department for Hornady, everyone cleans barrels at the end of their shift, every day. That's a lot of cleaning, inspection and testing, so I think they have a good idea of what actually works and what is hype or marketing. To be fair, in the '60's I cleaned my grandfather's guns every couple of months with Hoppe's #9. It was either that or Rem-oil, there wasn't much to choose from in those days so I get that there are family traditions and history but better products have come along.
