What’s your go-to revolver for daily carry and why? I’d love to hear from those who regularly carry wheelguns about what they find most effective in real-life situations.

J-frame .38, either a 442 or 36.

I've got a 638 and a 640-3 and would really like to have the Performance Center 642 for the extra 1/2" barrel length and better sights. If I ever get through paying the dentist and others. :)

I don’t carry a revolver every day……….but if I did, it would be a Charter Arms Pug in .44 Special. Sound like a commercial ? 😀

For my purposes, I just like a semi in 9mm, it carries better in an IWB holster. I’m not putting down any revolver, and I think that your choice is personal. I can shoot the semis better and faster so that’s what I carry. I also think that semis are just a tool, while revolvers can be a thing of beauty as well.

While I love my classic 'j frames' this 432UC with PGS Hideout grips is perfect for me. Airweight, real sights , very concealable in an IWB Simply Rugged Silver Dollar while remaining very 'shootable' ....and 6 rounds.

I ordered a Taurus 942M stainless 2" .22M 8-shot revolver today and Federal Punch ammo. Looking forward to trying it out.

I have always had a J Frame in the rotation. Originally a model 36, which I gave to my son. I now have a 340PD which is an 11.4oz .357. I bought it years ago at a good price when I found a guy who bought it new and proceeded to load up with full strength 158gr .357. He pulled the trigger one time and put the gun on the market. I on the other hand load up with Speer 135gr Gold Dot 38+p, as my carry ammo which is manageable.

I carry a S&W 340PD in .357 when I pocket carry. It is a real handful with the magnum loads, so I rarely shoot/carry them. G19 IWB the rest of the time.

If I do, it's a Taurus Model 85 with a Biharmi Hip Grip. Not sure if the new Texas law considers the hip grip legal or not.
I would love to have an 8-shot .357 with a 3-inch barrel if that critter exist these days.

You can’t beat the little 5 shot 38 special for a pocket gun. But, people often don’t think about their choices with one.

I have stuck them in my pocket and out the door. A pocket holster is a must. Cheap and simple. Uncle Mikes is just fine.

Even though most of these guns are +P rated, it’s not necessary or even prudent. How many people or things are you trying to shoot through? And, every time I pull the trigger I have to adjust my grip because the recoil rocks it back in my hand.

Shoot low recoil reduced loads. Ones that equal velocity/energy of a 9mm. They will work just fine and you will be able to pull off follow up shots easily.

I offen carry a 357 ruger or 44 mag super readhwk hunting only.

I interpreted the question to be daily carry for personal protection, not on the ranch etc. I am gradually morphing more to a small frame .327 Federal Magnum revolver and will upgrade from 2" to 3" barrel before year's end. And I can use any .32 H&R Magnum or .32 S&W Long in it as well. YMMV

Had to remove the faulty data provided by Federal. Well, not faulty but for one ammo they inserted their 20" rifle barrel data not handgun data. Anyway, I'm becoming a Buffalo Bore fan and convert. They offer a 100gr JHP at 1315fps and 384# energy and a 130gr flat nose at 1291fps and 481# energy, both taken from a 3" SP101.

About “on the ranch”, urban defense is mostly two legged varmints. On property the concern is two legged, four legged, Mr No shoulders and “Crap! Look at those teeth/tusks!!” I like seeing the range of what people carry. Your 327 Federal Mag is a very versatile choice for Texas. Would work for most of what you would encounter.

I read the post to be for hunting environment, for EDC I carry the newer S&W Bodyguard 2.0. 12 rounds and very light, I may consider the new Bodyguard ported model or Shield X. I’ve carried revolvers, 1911 Commander 45 everything in between. One of my favorites was a S&W model 10 or 13, 3” round butt, that gun fit me extremely well and I shot it as naturally as anything other than a 1911. I wish I still had them. Remember the purpose is to defend yourself at close range so a natural grip and point of aim is more important than most other things. For a 38 special short barrel, it’s hard to beat a 148 Wadcutter, at least in my experience.

Texas law requires that open carried handguns must be in a holster.
It's not exactly open carried. The "grip" is built into the handle. It leaves about 1/2 inch of the grip exposed in a pocket or behind a belt. You could say it "technically" is not open carried, but it's not in a holster either. The rookie or hard ass vet who wants to jam up a "citizen" who carries might be open to opinion here. It's usually my last carry option.

I don’t know why anyone would open carry simply because it’s legal. If I were a criminal looking for a gun, I just found one with a thump on the head from behind. I see folks doing it on occasion, easy targets.

Exactly! While conducting banking it tells the robber "SHOOT ME FIRST". My goal and hope is for nobody to find out until after it's too late for them that I am carrying. I've heard the reasoning it's a deterrent when they see it, they'll turn and leave. Baloney. It's a signal. Look at me. I feel inferior and that my is too small. So I'm showing the world my gun to compensate.
