Shot a micro nine I expected to be snappy and it really wasn't

I went into this one bracing myself a little because every micro nine I'd handled years ago had a reputation for being a bit of a hand slap and I figured this would be no different. It wasn't and that surprised me more than I expected it to. Engineers have clearly gotten a lot better at managing recoil in these small packages because the current generation of micro nines shoots noticeably softer than the first generation compacts ever did. So if your only experience with a compact nine was years ago and you walked away unimpressed, it might be worth giving the current generation an honest second chance, the technology has moved more than people give it credit for.

Has anything you tried once and dismissed turned out to be completely different the second time around?

My only micro 9 is an Sig 938. Really liked it at first shot. Seems to recoil a lot less than expected and has excellent sights.

I had the same experience. Early micro nines could be pretty unpleasant to shoot but the newer designs are much more controllable. It's impressive how much difference a few years of engineering can make without making the guns any bigger.

I tried a micro nine about five years ago and put it back right away. Maybe it’s time to give one another look.
