I had that thing for probably ten years and I used it on every hunt. I realized it was gone when I got home and I'm genuinely bummed about it. It wasn't expensive or special, just mine you know? Ever lose a piece of gear that you actually cared about?

Years ago, I stopped in the woods at a little creek to field dress a few squirrels. After cleaning them I stuck my bloody knife in a tree trunk. Washed my hands, gathered up my shotgun and left. Only after moving a mile or three did I miss my knife. I wouldn’t go back for it because it was a half mile deep in the woods.

A year later, I was hunting there again with my son and daughter. My daughter was into carving so she persuaded me to go and look for that knife. Even though my first time to hunt those woods was the day I lost the knife, I walked straight to the tree. It was no longer in the tree, but she scratched around through the leaves at the bottom of the tree and there it lay. It was a Barlow type knife with two blades and wooden scales. One side of the scales was discolored but otherwise it was fine. Since I had replaced it after losing it, she claimed the old one. 😀

I should add, that there’s a high dollar Benchmade automatic laying somewhere on a 217 acre place I used to own. That’s the reason that there’s a $25 knife clipped to my pocket this very minute. Can’t lose a cheapo !🤣
