Started a new tradition that's now bigger than the old ones

Five years ago we randomly decided to drive around looking at lights on Christmas Eve instead of our usual boring dinner. Now it's the highlight of the season and everyone looks forward to it more than anything else. Anyone else accidentally create a tradition that took over? How'd it start?
