Just another old man in Texas, joining the forum. Roots in central Texas going back to early 1800's. My first firearm, was inherited Winchester model 1894, chambered in 42-40. Built in 1896. Unfortunately, stolen in breakin.

I recently acquired a Marlin built 1977 model 1894, chambered in 44 mag. Not exactly the same, but now all my firearms are safely stored in a safe. Tough lesson. I still have a new box of 32-40 cartridges, the thieves missed.

Good morning and welcome from the Hill Country. I grew up around, what is now, the SSW side of Austin. It was out in the country when I was growing up. My family settled there in the early to mid 1800's. What part of town are you from?

Welcome from Madisonville area hope you enjoy this forum.
I understand a loss like that…my 30-06 Remington 742 my father & mom gave me for birthday/Christmas at age 14 was stolen too!
I mowed a lot of yards and worked at a bicycle and mower shop to buy the 4x Weaver scope and rings for it. I shot my first deer with that gun over in Columbus Texas. That was open sights before I had the scope my dad was watching me through his scope. I don't think he believed I would actually hit it because it was a 300 yards. My uncle and the other guys at the deer camp believe it so everyone went out to see the spot where shot it…you could see the bullet exit path with the hair and blood right where it laid. They even stepped off the distance to the blind. I felt like a hero that day and was more like one of the guys and not just a kid hanging around.
