When it's cold, I like to stick with easy-to-handle calibers like the 308. Some of the lighter loads seem way more touchy when winter rolls around. Have you noticed any calibers that work better in the cold?

I agree that the .308 is a great round. It works predictably for me even when it's cold. Some smaller rounds just didn't seem as consistent when the temperature dropped a lot.

I cast size and powder coat in the cooler months. I just finished up casting and powder coating 100 lbs of 38/45 bullets. I still have another 100 lbs to cast.

Is linotype lead still available?
I’ve never been a volume shooter so no need to cast. 100 lbs is a lot of bullets.

Our winter is just a cooler summer, so I don’t worry about temp changes when loading ammo. My days of hunting in the West are over, and the only real cold I experienced in my younger days was a few days in Iowa at single digits temps. Brrr ! I loaded my Encore muzzle loader the first morning and only decapped it at night when I was through for the day. We left them in my truck overnight to prevent condensation from heat inside the house where we stayed. I didn’t see anything I wanted to shoot so I discharged mine the last night into the ground behind the house. My buddy killed a button buck thinking it was a doe and his worked fine. The most dangerous part of that trip was driving on the icy pavement in a two wheel drive Excursion. When I got back to Texas I traded that one for a slightly used 4x4 Excursion. 😁
