Dove season is here! I know what it is like to be a beginner, so here is what to do if you are one:

Find fields with sunflowers or water.
Use a 12 or 20-gauge shotgun with #7.5 or #8 shot. Wear camo clothes.
Hunt in the morning or evening.
Bag limits in Texas are usually 15 doves.
Check Texas rules for bag limits (usually 15 doves). Get a license.
More than that, be safe. Watch behind your target.

I hope it helps. Btw, I am hunting near Austin soon.

Good rundown. I'll add this too. Nring more shells than you think you need. Doves are fast and humble even good shooters.

I usually set up by a water tank with a Mojo decoy spinning, and they'll buzz in close. Early September mornings are hot and loud, nothing like it.

Near Austin, hunt public land like Granger WMA. Set up near grain fields at dawn and use a spinning-wing decoy to draw doves in. A 20-gauge with #8 shot keeps recoil low for fast follow-ups.
