I have a friend who casts and coats bullets, so I procured a few samples to try. I haven't settled on a load yet for my .41, but a stout but not maximum load of AAC #9 seems to be promising. I really like these hollow points and want to hunt with them.

I had a model 57 and sold it a few years ago. It was a nice gun, but I'm all in on single actions now.

I cast for most all of my handguns and some rifles. Took a year or so to work through getting the alloy right for the different calibers and velocities, but it was a fun learning experience.

Hope they work out for you.

I bet those in the 41 with that powder choice will be impressive on game. Particularly of the pork variety. Keep us posted.

Too hot to hunt right now. My blind is probably 150* inside ! They are coming in from time to time but they don't have schedule……..

I know what you mean about the heat... been tryin to mow our place on weekends and with no top it gets pretty danged toasty sittin atop tha tractor. About 10am it starts getting annoying and by noon almost too much.

That is a nice shooting load. What did you end up with?

I'm using up some surplus powder I picked up a while back that is sorta in between AA9 and 296/110. With a top end load out of my Redhawk, I get just over 1400fps form those cast pictured above, and right at 1500 with the Remington bullet. I haven't loaded up more than enough for testing for velocities and leading. It was a short session at the range.

I can say this, that old Remington 200gr SJHP has been the demise of a bunch of hogs and a few deer. It shoots flat enough between 1350 and 1500fps that you don't hold off hair out to 100yds or more. Even at the longer ranges it plowed right on through.

The last loads I shot a few days ago were 15.5 grains and 16 grains of AAC #9. This is 16 grains at 25 yards. I had to sight in a buddy's rifle so haven't had time to shoot my popgun at 50 yards. That's next on my list though. (I go to the doctor a lot !)
