Morning folks,

Curious if there are any Ackley Cartridge fans out there? If so wondering what your favorite is and why?

My top three would be the 280 AI, 25-06AI and 22-250 AI. Velocity gain over the parent cartridge being my primary reason.

Not anymore. I got my AI fix in the 80's. Played with a 243 AI for a while, it was fun for. Buddy of mine wanted it really bad so I sold it.

Daughter just got a Weatherby Carmilla in 280AI. It was arguably the best caliber for her nilgai and whitetail hunting. Still have to get it to group some partitions of other heavy bullet.

Huge fan of the 280 AI. Its what started the Ackley craze for me back in the late 80's. 160 Grain Partition in the 280 is a great option and I've had good luck with it over the years.

The 160 Partition is what we can't get to group. What's your recipe for the partition?

Couple that have worked for me.

55G to 58G of H4831SC. Fed210M primers.

57G to 59G of RL22. Fed210M or CCI BR2 primers.

I would work within these parameters and watch for any pressure indications.

These combinations have provided .5" groups in a few different rifles.

I have a 270 ICL … it's basically an AI, but no credit given to PO Ackley.

Verne Junke, out of Saturn Gun Shop in Reno NV built it for my dad. Probably circa 1950.

Accurate as anything I have ever shot. Beautiful wood, very 1950's though, still, it's a great gun.

I have not shot it in 20 odd years. Still have a box of Peterson ammo. Original cardboard box, 75 years old!
