I used to be a boat captain, ran Crewboats, delivered boats/yachts, fished often!!:), and commercial fished. Then age has tapped me on the shoulder! :) as it does to many. Now I have to get fish stories from our daughter and people I know that still fish the Gulf of America.

Howdy and welcome from Friendswood. Glad to have you. I bet you have some good stories. Do you do any shooting or stick to fishing?
Don't shoot much anymore either. Only go hog hunting once in a great while if a friends lease starts to have to many porkers around.
Met a fella that shoots those three gun gigs, suppose to go see what that is all about as the weather starts to cool some.
My hunting and fishing is now the tall tales I get from our daughter and a couple friends that going hunting often. HA!!! :)

Welcome to forum! Wow you must have moved up near family because I can’t imagine being that far from the ocean with your history on the sea…I met a couple in my travels with the Rv and they were older than us and they did 3 gun…. We were invited to a match and it was lots of fun and great people! Careful you may just love it! Me….I shoot F class now and boy it’s a rabbit hole for sure! Also great people!

Howdy, from Humble. I can sure relate to old Father Time tapping you on the shoulder, I’ll turn 82 in January, hunting days are pretty much over. Still hoping to have a fishing trip or two left in me.

HA!!! Me too,, daughter goes often and still have a connection or two. One of them takes the daughter fishing. All she does is have to call and he will take her in a minute. Hunting,,,, just the 6 hour drive out West about does me in. Getting there is alright I suppose but then you have to come back and most of the time that is on a weekend. If you hunt and or try to lend a hand and fill feeders, help fix things that makes for a busy four days or so and the ole bod feels it for a few days after! :) giving up fishing was a very very hard thing for me to do. I took my daughter and wife fishing in the bay/jetties all the time. That was something we all did together and I loved seeing them catch fish. We went fishing all the time, if it was right we were in the bay or the jetties. We would be casting at dark thirty. Fish for a few hours and when people started to show up we would come back in. If we had any fish we would give them to the families fishing from the banks at the boat ramp by BV (Bayou Vista) if we were not going to eat fish that evening.

We live inland of the intracoastal but not far enough inland that it makes a big difference on our insurance! :) Santa Fe is our home and has been for a very long time now. We also have family on the island, on my wife's side and she goes to see them often.

Ok I use to fish all around the Texas City Dike/ jettie. When I had the boat most of my time was out of Port O Conner. At that time home was in Richmond. The finest time I had was a hour long battle with a tarpon on medium tackle the show it put on was fantastic of course it broke off but that was a hoot. We travelled in a fifth wheel toy hauler full time for a few years and I learned to fly fish that was challenging but sometimes very rewarding and relaxing ( except when untangling a fly out of a tree limb or bush. It’s been a year at least since the last time I fished.

You ever know a guide by the name of Luis Johnson down in Port O’Conner? I used to fish with him back in the 70’s. Quite a character, I think he was the first fishing guide to operate out of Port O’Conner. Had an old wooden boat called the Jambalaya. Bob Brister, old time outdoor writer for the Houston Chronicle before it became a liberal rag, used to fish with and write about him a lot. I think Brister put Port O’Conner on the map, about the only there was a small wooden building called the “Fishing Center” with a single boat launch and wooden pier. After fishing with him a few times I bought me a Boston Whaler and started fishing from there and Port Mansfield for many years.

Nope never went with a guide there. When I was going down there I would launch at Clark’s Marina & Restaurant the gentleman that worked the marina looked like a twin of my uncle on my father’s side. I took a picture to him and he was very surprised even did a double take! I had a 18’6” Sea Skiff center console should have bought a flats boat. We fished the bays, jetties, and the back lakes. Good weather we would go out about 15 miles to a rig and get some snapper. Also fish the weed line on the way in and out.
